Mean ‘ol Blues

Jimi Hendrix once said that “blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.” Perhaps this is why it has taken so long to catch on in Russia. But times, they have already a-changed, with the genre becoming more and more popular over the past few years. More than 10,000 people are expected to show up to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of beer and blues at Moscow’s biggest blues event — the Efes Pilsner Blues Festival at the All-Russia Exhibition Center on Oct. 28 and 29. Headliners on this year’s bill include Chicago blues legends Magic Slim and The Teardrops along with Buckwheat Zydeco and Big Time Sarah.

The Canadian-US-British trio often plays at the Phlegmatic Dog, and on Moscow River boat parties in the summer. “It’s the most fun I have,” said Malloy.
